Sweet treats at Easter

Easter is known as the time for sweet treats (and who doesn’t love chocolate and hot cross buns!) and a time for family gatherings – which we all know means lots of food!

We don’t really need much of an excuse to start trying out new recipes for family get-togethers, whether they are picnics out and about, or more formal “gatherings”, and while chocolate and sweets are probably on the menu somewhere, these tend to be where the savoury dishes take centre stage.

This week is Meat Free Week 2015, an initiative designed to get people to think about how much meat they eat, where it comes from and the impact eating too much meat has on your health, animals and the environment.

Critics of the initiative say it is just a ploy to encourage more people to become vegetarian, but we think they are missing the point.

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

While the usual thing associated with the celebrations of St Patrick’s Day would be Guinness, it’s a good day to remember (and taste) the amazing foods Ireland has brought to the world culinary table too!

Why not start your Irish celebration meal with some of the range of fresh seafood available in Ireland? A reason to visit the Emerald Isle all on their own, the shellfish and seafood are so delicious and fresh – particularly the mussels, oysters and lobster. They’ll make a lovely light start to your meal.

Masterchef

I consider myself to have been working late this week – although I’m not sure everyone would agree with me! Masterchef is back on the TV and it’s my professional duty as a chef to watch. Honest.

In the kitchen we’re always pleased when Masterchef is on (all three versions) . As the competition goes further through the stages, we get more and more involved. We have favourite cooks that we’re rooting for. If you’ll forgive the pun, it can get quite “heated” when we’re talking about who should win!
