Whilst we’re all for tradition but who’s up for an alternative Christmas dinner this year?

After all, by the time the 25th comes around, the chances are you have already had your fill of turkey dinners, what with office Christmas parties and alike, so why put yourself through it again?

By the time you have had all the trimmings and a mountain of Christmas pudding, it’s little wonder that you want to fall asleep whilst watching the Queen’s Speech, or perhaps that’s just because of the speech (whoops, that’s our MBE gone!).

If you want to try something different whilst still doffing your cap to tradition, why not say get stuffed to the turkey and try goose instead? Because it has more fat it’s harder to overcook than turkey and you can use the fat to make the best roast potatoes.

We’ve been banging the drum for game for a while so try roast pheasant or roast venison. Or how about partridge for making you feel festive?
There’s also no law that says you can’t eat fish on Christmas Day so how about some salmon or cod? It’s much lighter on the stomach leaving room for you to consume more mulled wine, or whatever tipple takes your fancy.

If you are looking for something completely different, consider trying food that people in other parts of the world will be eating on Christmas day.

As you know we’re big fans of Asian food, given it’s our bread and butter here in the SK kitchen, so why not do what the Christian communities do in Indian regions such as Goa and have a pork vindaloo followed by bebinca, a very sweet pudding made with flour, sugar, ghee, eggs and coconut milk?

If that doesn’t take your fancy, there’s always Mexican. One of the most popular dishes eaten by Mexican families at Christmas is tamales. This is dough steam in a corn husk or banana leaf and filled with beef or pork and red sauce, or chicken with a green chili sauce.

If you want to try something closer to home, how about fried carp and potato salad, which is eaten in the Czech Republic or reindeer (yes, they eat Rudolph) which is enjoyed in Iceland?

We would love to know if you are planning something different for Christmas detail so please tweet or leave a comment.
