Meet Our PeopleINTEGRAL TO OUR SUCCESS

None of our successes would be possible without our people, their hard work, determination and focus on getting it right for our customers.

From the chefs, to the commercial team, to the staff making sure the million spring rolls get to our customers bang on time, every time at our three sites, we’re all part of the SK Chilled Foods team.

What’s your role?

I’m the IT and Communications Manager which in reality means I’m a bit of a jack of all trades as long as it involves IT, there’s not really a bit of IT I don’t cover. I’ve been here eight years. We’ve got a relatively small department which is good in many ways because we get to be specialist in all areas.

There are about 200 people who use the IT systems here at SK Chilled Foods, so there’s always plenty to do. We’re a proactive and preventative team and we’re on call 24/7, 365 days a year. Because our operations are 24/7 there is all day production, orders and picking which means the calls into the department can literally be anything! And that old “Have you turned if off and back on again?” Yes, it’s a cliché, but it can work!

I enjoy the diversity of what I can do. One week I could be in a roof void cabling or training people or just doing day to day stuff. I’ve had people say their computer isn’t working and found it’s not plugged in! You just have to laugh and get on with it.

What’s your favourite food?

I’m a foodie – I enjoy Indian food which is great for working here! I also enjoy Italian, Thai – anything really with a bit of flavour and a bit of spice.

What’s your role?

I’m the Technical Director here at SK and that means I’ve got responsibility for food safety and food quality. The team has about 60 people across the three sites – there’s the central technical team at Wynyard which look after raw materials assurance, quality assurance and suppliers – we have a team looking after customer specifications at Wynyard too and on the sites there is a technical team at both sites working across the shift patterns working in quality assurance. They ensure the quality and safety is correct and that we are making our ranges to the specifications we get from the customers and they also audit things like hygiene. We have taste panels every day.

I’ve probably been here 17 years, before that I worked at ASDA as a technical manager looking after ready meals and snacks. SK made garlic mushrooms for us, so I started coming up to the factory and got to know the team and I was asked to join.

I like the variation of what I do, there’s no pattern to what I do.

What’s your favourite food?

I like Italian because of the vast range it covers.

What’s your role?

I’m the Finance Director which means I’m in charge of publishing the accounts, paying employees and the bills and collecting money in from our customers. We deal with roughly 2500 supplier invoices per month now and we send out even more to our customers, as the company has more than doubled in size over the past 7 years.

Indirectly, we’re pretty important cogs in the machine!

I’ve been here about seven and a half years and the business has changed extensively since then. This is my first job in the food industry but in my line of work they are transferable skills which has allowed me to work in several industries, though I have always enjoyed working with consumer products – I started my career at Electrolux – so I’m enjoying being in consumer goods again!

What’s your favourite food?

Italian food, chicken or steak in a tasty sauce – chateaubriand is good!

What’s your role?

I’m the Head of Development and I head up a team of chefs, NPD managers and technologists to develop the very best snacks, sides and ready meals. It’s all about innovating and working with individual customers or potential customers to make sure we’re meeting their needs and that it all runs smoothly. I’m the WD40 really!

I’ve been working at SK for two and half years and the best thing about my role is the people – internally and externally and building relationships with people. Not eating all the food is the problem! You can read a more in-depth article on Benna and her role on our news page.

What’s your favourite food?

Fruit! I juice a lot. Hmmm, or chocolate!

What’s your role?

I’m Senior Production Manager for SK Foods which entails looking after the two production sites, ensuring that all the quality and efficiency targets are met and to manage teams who will raise any issues.

There’s a lot of considerations in terms of quality and it’s my responsibility to make sure everything goes out to the right standard. It can get very busy, one of my main roles is to co-ordinate the Christmas output and make sure the two sites make it on time.

I’ve been here for 18 years, and started working on the samosa line – it’s very therapeutic! I like having pride in my work – I go into the supermarkets and I get a sense of pride looking at the products.

What’s your favourite food?

I like food, but I’m not very adventurous – Indian food is my favourite cuisine but I do like a “parmo” as well!

What’s your role?

I’m the Supply Chain Controller – what that means is that everything that the two main sites make, the point after they make it and they give it to me, I’m responsible for making sure the customer gets what they ordered, in the right amount, in the right quality at the right time.

It’s all quite challenging – it’s like a puzzle – having to move the right things around to complete the right picture. We work across all the departments, operations, NPD, manufacturing, marketing, sales and customers themselves, third parties, hauliers, IT – every department and I have to be flexible. Christmas is very stressful – volumes go through the roof – we’re preparing well in advance so the logistics work properly.

I’ve been here almost 8 years. I enjoy it – it’s good to deal with food because everyone loves it and I’m quite a foodie person. The interesting thing is every day is a different day because of the amount of different customers, priorities and requirements. It’s a changing landscape of customer needs. You can read a more in-depth article on Peter and his role on our news page.

What’s your favourite food?

In general I’m an Italian fan and I find that the easiest to cook at home. Working here though is constant temptation!

What’s your role?

As the Commercial Director I’m responsible for the interface with the customer overall – my teams work with the customers every day. Customer relationships are key – but we’re also in charge of profit mix, product launches and category side of it too, keeping an eye on the market, reviewing data etc.

I’ve been here for 7 years and I’ve been in the industry for 32 years past companies include Premier Brands S&A Foods & Superdrug. Here, I most enjoy spending time with the customers, winning new contracts, evaluating new categories and seeing a product from launch all the way through to culminating to successful launch to the consumer. My favourites here are our chicken pakoras, Mexican ready meals and crispy chilli beef. It’s always changing and always challenging and we’re always thinking a year ahead Especially for our Xmas party ranges.

What’s your favourite food?

Beef Wellington! Cuisine would be Thai – but I love all Oriental!

What’s your role?

My role is quite diverse – From Administration Co-ordinator to looking after Jeremy as his PA. I’ve been here 15 years – where has the time gone? I originally started as PA to the MD and my role has expanded over the years which gives me the opportunity to work with many departments. At the time I started I got a good feeling, and it’s got even better working here over the years. It has been really great being part of an ever expanding Company.

Being the first point of contact, you get to meet everyone and its nice to know anyone can come to me for advice or assistance.

What’s your favourite food?

Always trying to be healthy my favourite would be a great fillet steak but on a naughty day you can’t beat a good pizza.
