SK Chilled Foods has just experienced the busiest Christmas period in its 30-year history.

In 2017, we produced over 50 separate Christmas party food products for supermarkets, covering Oriental, Indian, Med, Tex-Mex and traditional cuisines.

In total, 3.3 million cases of chilled food were delivered to supermarkets in the 12 weeks leading up to the end of the Christmas ‘season’ on 30th December.

On average, there are six packs in each case, so this equates to approximately 20 million packs of food which would have been bought and eaten by people before and after Christmas.

Jeremy Faulkner, Managing Director of SK Chilled Foods, said: “In 2017 we saw a 21% increase, compared to last year, in cases of chilled products delivered to our supermarket customers across the UK.

“Sales to all customers over the same period have increased by 24% year on year with the crucial December period showing an increase in sales of 34% on last year.

“This makes 2017 the busiest and most successful year in the company’s history.

“This is the result of many factors, including our ability to innovate, the creativity of our development chefs and new product development (NPD) teams, the hard work and dedication of the people who work at our factory sites and our head office team.”

2017 is already a distant memory as far as SK Chilled Foods is concerned. Despite it only being January, the company is already busy developing its Christmas product lines for 2018.

This involves the NPD teams working with their customers to identify new trends and dishes for Christmas 2018; the development chefs devising new dishes and trialling them at the factory sites to see if they can be produced to large volumes.

As well as experiencing a record year, 2017 was successful for other reasons for SK Chilled Foods. In November, it was named Chilled Manufacturer of the Year and Food Manufacturer of the Year in the Food Manufacture Excellence Awards. The awards are regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the food manufacturing world.
