With the news this week that Greggs have launched a vegan sausage roll (available from today Thursday) and McDonalds following this up with its first vegetarian happy meal, it’s safe to say that the meat-free trend is here to stay.

More and more people are going vegetarian, vegan, or flexitarian if the thought of giving meat up forever is too much to swallow.

Whether you stand on the debate, it’s good to see so any different options now available, and Greggs and McDonalds couldn’t have timed their announcements any better, what with January being a time when people are looking to eat healthier after gorging over the festive period.

The organisers of Veganuary were very clever when they set up this awareness month a few years ago.

Granted, the only other option, if it was about fitting in with the name of the month, was to have it in February (Veganuly just doesn’t right does it?) but January really is the perfect time.

After all, with the excess of the Christmas season (and let’s face it this is getting longer each year) people are ready to do something different, hence why Dry January has become so popular, although you will not find this chef taking part as this month is miserable enough without alcohol to get you through it!

Veganuary

Veganuary

No doubt many of you will currently be trying to stay ‘dry’ during January after the boozy excesses of Christmas, so have you thought about doing Veganuary?

If you are like us, that is likely to last until this evening when you get that Friday feeling and, let’s face it, we will all have worked hard during this first week back at work.

So, can we suggest that you do moderate your alcohol (one night a week won’t hurt), but why don’t you also try to get through the rest of the month by going on an animal-free diet.
