Now Halloween and Bonfire Night are out the way attention can turn to the greatest celebration of all – Christmas.

In modern day Britain the festive season now no longer begins with the switching on of the Christmas lights or opening of the first window of the Advent calendar.

And whilst the first sound of Noddy Holder in supermarkets or online black Friday promotions focus the mind, the starting gun really gets fired with the launch of Christmas TV ad campaigns and accompanying social media onslaught.

This year is no different and already you can spot Will Ferrell, Alison Hammond, French and Saunders, Harry Styles and others leading this year’s festive advert charge.

TV ads first arrived in Britain in 1955 with a plug for Gibbs SR toothpaste but it wasn’t really until 40 years later when the Coca Cola truck rolled across our screens proclaiming “Holidays are Coming” that the age of big production Christmas commercials really started.

John Lewis raised the level to that of an art form in 2011 as their heart warming Bear and the Hare tale sought to encapsulate the true spirit of Christmas to a Lily Allen soundtrack.

Marks and Spencer pioneered the art of highlighting food and drink at the heart of Christmas. Warm glow lighting, seductive soundtrack and a jaw dropping array of mouth watering delicacies have viewers drooling in the shopping aisles.

Other supermarkets also realise one way to the nation’s heart is through its stomach and food has become central to their Christmas push. Aldi went one step further in 2017 when Kevin the Carrot, a feature of their groaning banquet table,  became a must-have Christmas gift.

The recipe for this year’s TV offerings seem to combine the best elements of these classic adverts.  A catchy soundtrack, pull at the heartstrings and sharing delicious food with family and friends.

At SK Foods our elves (ok, colleagues) work all year round (literally!) to ensure our Christmas range is ready in good time for the festive season. Inspired by the best tastes from home and around the world that range includes loaded baguettes, samosas, wontons and popping chicken.

So, what is better for the greatest party of the year than our party food? Check out our offerings at your local supermarkets and say hi to Will and Harry for us.
